The "Hidden Story" Behind
"TREE KEEPER" - SQUIRREL
The Artist's Statement

The squirrel, to most he is a backyard bird feeder pirate, a nuisance. To others, a skillful, highflying, master gymnast, simply another testament to nature's splendor.
I named this sculpture "Tree Keeper" for good reason. Most pecan, oak and other nut trees across this country have been spread by the burying activities of these active little rascals as they bury their winter food source nuts.
As I sculpted this piece,
I wondered what I would hide within it. Then, while watching the hummingbirds visit the feeder outside my studio,
suddenly there it was - so obvious.
Can you find the subtle hummingbird in the section forming the tail?
